Side by side positions:

Side by side positions are wonderful for slow romantic lovemaking. It is often easiest to start from a more conventional position like the missionary and then roll over onto your sides. This is especially true for the position shown in the first photo above. This is a wonderfully intimate and connected position in which the partners can lie back and gaze into each other's eyes, or embrace closely and kiss, or just lie still while they enjoy the sensations of closeness. In this face to face position, the man can kiss and nibble his partner's breasts and she can see him do it, which can be a powerful erotic stimulus for her. In addition, the partners can touch each other's chest, torso, face and back, which can increase their sense of intimacy. It is a position in which the man can thrust gently and last for a long time before he comes - movement of his hips is slightly restricted, but he can achieve good penetration, and there is no danger of him slipping out while he thrusts because his partner can wrap her legs around him and hold him inside her while the lovemaking continues. All in all, this is an excellent position and highly recommended.

The rear entry side by side position shown in the second photo is often called the spoons - like a pair of spoons with the bowls together. Some men like to go to sleep after lovemaking while they are still inside their partner - this is the position to do it, curled up together and resting after sex. It is an exciting position for the man, with the suggestion of taking his woman from behind, but it may not produce as much sensation as some others. It is intimate and allows good body contact, though, and it can therefore be a good start to lovemaking. By moving slightly as shown in the third photo, the couple can come up with any number of variations on a theme - some of which will, as always, produce more sensation than others for the man or the woman or both.
